Faith Story

by Jerome

One of the activities that I enjoy at church is dartball. It is a game that is played just like it sounds, with darts thrown at a board. But it is more than a game of darts, it is a time of fellowship with men and women of our church and other churches … we learn more about how God interacts in our lives and the lives of others. This strengthens our faith in God, because of the interaction with the faith community.

A personal example of this, is the growing bond between my son and I. He takes a great interest in what goes on in church and at other activities the church is engaged in.

Another example of how we reach out to the community is when the dartball team provides food to local food banks.

Fellowship activities

In everything we do at Zion Evangelical Lutheran, we come together as God’s family. This includes our numerous fellowship activities. Through fellowship we support one another in our extended family of faith and we work together to benefit others. A number of our fellowship opportunities are ongoing, while others are organized for special occasions. Some of our ongoing fellowship opportunities include:

Softball

Men and youth aged 14 and older are welcome to join the men’s softball team. Games are played on Tuesdays and/or Fridays here at Zion or at one of the neighboring churches. We belong to the South Monroe County Christian Men’s League, which is slow pitch using ASA rules.

We also have a Coed softball team for anyone 14 years or older. This is also a slow pitch league (South Monroe County Christian Coed League). Games are played on Monday nights and all are welcome!

Dartball

During the “off-season” (September-February) we also have a men’s dartball team. Players, confirmed age or older, enjoy an evening of fun with other players in a ten team church league. The teams play five games each Monday night starting at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments are provided by the home team (each team plays at home for half of the season). As some churches do not have enough men to field an entire team, women are not discouraged from playing. Also, spectators are welcome and are encouraged to come and support the team.
