Christian education
It is 9:00 a.m. on a quiet Sunday morning at the intersection of Tunnicliffe and Kruse Roads in Ida Township, where Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is located. Although worship will not begin for another hour and 15 minutes, already some members of this family of faith have started gathering to spend time in education.
The youth and adults who arrived to participate in Sunday School are beginning their studies. For the next hour, they’ll read, discuss, participate in learning activities, and explore God’s Word and its meaning.
At 10 o’clock, when the Sunday School hour ends and classes are dismissed, the church is filled with the sound of the children sharing what they’ve learned and done that morning with Mom or Dad, Grandma or Grandpa, or others who are interested. The adults, as well, emerge with new insights to inform their worship experience and their week ahead, sometimes continuing their conversations from the classroom.
Sunday School Schedule
During the summer, the children enjoy Bible Day Camp for preschool age through sixth grade. Sunday School classes are adjourned for the summer months until Rally Day held in September.
Youth Sunday School
We offer Bible-centered Sunday School classes for all ages of youth, from nursery through high school. Periodically we conduct group-centered learning sessions where all the students come together for Bible lessons, crafts, and fellowship. Every year Jesus’s birth is celebrated with a special Christmas program.
Children are also taught the importance of Christian charity, raising money and collecting food or supplies for various local and international charities and organizations.
Adult Sunday School
In addition to youth-oriented Sunday School, we conduct one or more adult education classes that are also held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. These classes involve traditional Bible study, as well as explorations of a variety of topical issues.
Additional Small Group Studies
From time to time we also arrange book studies and special classes. These small group studies offer adults and older youth the opportunity to examine, in a less formal setting, books written by scholars or popular Christian authors, or to explore a broad overview to some subject, or to undertake a focused inquiry into a particular topic.
